1. He was born in Chirirbandar (now in Bangladesh) but later his family relocated to Calcutta (now Kolkata).
2. He was a significant Congress leader and served as a Member of Parliament from 1999 to 2009.
3. For nearly 20 years, he held the position of President of the All India Football Federation.
4. He was the first Indian to act as a Match Commissioner in a FIFA World Cup.
5. In 2008, he suffered a severe stroke and was left with paralysis, losing his ability to speak or recognize others.
6. In 2009, he underwent stem cell therapy in Düsseldorf, Germany to aid in his recovery.
7. Following his illness, his wife Deepa Dasmunsi took over his political responsibilities.
8. He passed away on 20 November 2017 after being in a coma for 8 years.
