Some Lesser Known Facts

1. The first female officer in the Indian military to receive a Sena Medal (SM) for gallantry in 1995. She completed her MBBS in 1989 and was promptly commissioned into the Indian Army. Recognized with the Sena Medal (SM) for her brave actions in Anantnag, Kashmir. She was promoted to the position of senior resident doctor at Holy Family Hospital in 2000.
2. On the night of July 15–16, 1992, treated critically wounded soldiers under heavy fire during an ambush in Nagum Village, Anantnag District, Kashmir Valley, while serving as Regimental Medical Officer with 3/5 Gorkha Rifles.
3. The only female medical officer assigned to an infantry battalion in the field, stayed with the battalion throughout its time in the Kashmir Valley.
