Assam began its year-long celebration of the birth centenary of legendary singer, composer, and filmmaker Bhupen Hazarika, who was born on September 8, 1926. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in Guwahati’s Jalukbari would be renamed to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

The Assam government announced a year-long celebration from September 8, 2025, to September 8, 2026, to mark the birth centenary of musical maestro Bhupen Hazarika. A 50-member committee, headed by the chief minister, will be formed to plan events across India, including a biography release and a commemorative coin.
