| 1. Irshad Kamil was born in Malerkotla, Punjab as the 7th child in his family. |

| 7. While studying Hindi and Geography in Ludhiana, he befriended Tejwant Kittu, who later became a close friend. |
| 8. Kamil agreed to write songs for a play called ‘Raja Aur Kisaan’ while at Panjab University, directed by Zulfiqar Khan. |
| 9. After working at ‘The Tribune’ in Chandigarh, where he translated reports for two years, Kamil transitioned to a different phase in his life he coined as 'Dashtnawardi' and 'Ghumakkadi'. |
| 10. He worked as a journalist at The Tribune in Chandigarh from 1996, translating Punjabi reports to English and editing advertisements. |
| 11. He later worked as a reporter at Jansatta, the Hindi paper of the Indian Express group, covering education and entertainment. |
| 12. His work is influenced by Punjabi poets and his multilingual upbringing in Malerkotla, which exposed him to Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. |
| 13. He has written lyrics for over 30 Bollywood films including Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Jab We Met, Rockstar, Aashiqui 2, Highway, Tamasha, Kabir Singh, and Dunki. |
