Political Journey	In 2009, unsuccessfully contested the by-election of Lok Sabha from Firozabad Constituency. In 2012, she was elected Member of Parliament from the Kannauj Constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, she was defeated by BJP's Subrat Pathak by a margin of more than 12,000 votes from Kannauj. On 8 December 2022, she won the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat by over two lakh votes, defeating her BJP rival Raghuraj Singh Shakya in a byelection. She won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Mainpuri seat by a margin of 221,639 votes, defeating her nearest rival BJP's Jaiveer Singh. In 2012, she was elected unopposed as Member of Parliament from the Kannauj Constituency, becoming the 44th person in India to be elected unopposed since independence and the only woman from Uttar Pradesh to achieve this. In 2014, she retained the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in the 16th Lok Sabha.
