Cleared UPSC Civil Services Exam 2016 in first attempt with All India Rank 420, allocated to Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in Customs department.

1. Ummul has a fragile bone disorder since childhood.
2. Her parents disowned her when she expressed her desire to continue studying after the 8th grade.
3. She achieved All India Rank 420 in the UPSC 2016 exams and aimed for IAS under the disability quota, scoring 1,001 marks.
4. Due to her condition, she has had 16 fractures and 8 surgeries.
5. Ummul's family moved from Rajasthan to Delhi when she was 5 years old, residing in a slum near Hazrat Nizamuddin where her father sold clothes on the street.
6. After completing 8th grade, her parents insisted she stop studying because she was a girl, leading Ummul to relocate to a Jhopri in Trilokpuri, Delhi, where she tutored to earn a living.
7. She taught children in the slums while supporting herself.
8. Her education was supported by Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, and she secured 91% in her 12th-grade exams.
9. In 2012, a minor accident left her wheelchair-bound for a year due to her bone disorder.
10. In 2013, she won the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award, receiving a monthly scholarship of 25,000 INR.
11. Ummul has reconnected with her family in the past 2 years.
12. Starting in September 2014, she worked as a trainee in "Duskin Leadership Training" in Shinjuku, Japan.
