1. Nargis was born as Fatima Rashid in Calcutta, Bengal, which is now known as Kolkata, West Bengal.
2. Her father, Abdul Rashid alias Mohan Babu, was a wealthy Mohyal Tyagi who converted to Islam.
3. Her mother, Jaddanbai, was a trained Classical Music Singer and regarded as one of the Indian Cinema pioneers.
4. Nargis began her acting career at six as a child artist in the film Talashe Haq.
5. She earned the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in Mother India (1957).
6. After marrying Sunil Dutt in 1958, Nargis retired from acting.
7. In 1958, she became the first Indian Actress to win an International Film award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
8. Nargis passed away from Pancreatic Cancer on 3 May 1981, just four days before her son Sanjay Dutt's debut film Rocky.
9. She was among the highest paid actresses of the 1950s and 1960s.
10. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema.
